Everlastings Wildflower Trail
Everlastings Wildflower Trail
Welcome to one of the biggest flower shows on earth. From June to October, the land comes alive as more than 12,000 species of wildflowers burst into bloom. Delight in the kaleidoscope of rainbow-coloured flowers and shrubs swaying against a brilliant blue sky on a six-day, 1,215-kilometre trail through wildflower country.
In Perth, meander through a carpet of wildflowers in inner-city Kings Park. If you’re here during September, be sure to catch the Kings Park Festival, which features a bunch of events and activities celebrating the beauty and diversity of Western Australia’s wildflowers. Next, drive alongside towering red gums to Gingin – famous for its kangaroo paw amid the gravestones. Moore River National Park is home to Moodjar, better known as the ‘Christmas tree’, while Badgingarra National Park is a vibrant canvas of contrasting yellow-and-black kangaroo paws, purple starflowers and the mottlecah’s crimson blooms.
Chow-down on lobster rolls in Cervantes. It’s a short hop from here to the otherworldly moonscape of the Pinnacles, where the ancient limestone spires transfix, and vibrant wattles, clematis and banksias create a show-stopping display. Lesueur National Park, an important flora conservation reserve, is an unmissable stop for wildflower enthusiasts.
The wildflower hotspot of Jurien Bay is also a blissful beach-side oasis of underwater caves, coral gardens, and a haven for Australian sea lions. Glide through the epic wildflower mosaic via Lake Indoon and Eneabba, where smokebushes and lime-yellow banksias light up the landscape.
Spend a night soaking up Dongara’s seaside vibes, then head to the true heart of wildflower country, Mingenew. Camera’s poised, snap a never-ending parade of everlastings at Coalseam Conservation Park.
Mullewa and the monastic town of New Norcia enchants everyone who visits: unique wreath flowers, wattles and foxgloves put on a show at the Everlasting Cultural Trail and Koolanooka Springs. Turn off from Bindoon to the exquisitely lush Chittering Valley where one final adventure awaits: the hunt for rare Star Sun orchids.
