Description

The Macpherson Homestead, originally known as Carnamah House, is a large stone homestead constructed in the late 1860s by the Macpherson family. The homestead is on the Register of Heritage Places, is surrounded by old farm machinery and offers views of farmland and the nearby Carnamah townsite. The grounds and sweeping verandahs of the homestead can be visited at any time and are located just one kilometre east of the Carnamah townsite. The homestead can be opened, to allow you to look inside, upon request to George on 0439 966 040. There is ample parking at the homestead or if you prefer to walk, there is a path through the bush on the edge of the road. The path begins near where Bowman Street becomes the Bunjil-Carnamah Road and runs up the Bunjil-Carnamah Road to the homestead's signposted driveway. During parts of winter and spring the Harlequin Bell, a wildflower unique to Carnamah, can be found alongside parts of the path.
