At sunset, follow the locals to Surfers Point for some big-wave action. Whatever your definition of luxury, Margaret River is the final word. Push on to Pemberton for more top-flight wines, like magnificent merlots and elegant pinots, and to sniff out the local black truffles and feast on freshly caught crayfish. Climb gigantic karri trees in nearby Gloucester and Warren National Parks, before hurtling down Yeagarup’s epic sand dunes. From September to November, wildflowers light up the scenery in a blaze of colour. Spend a night in sea-salty Albany, a former whaling town steeped in history. A boat tour (May to October) to witness whales in the wild is a never-to-be-forgotten experience. And, if you thought the surf was big in Margaret River, wait till you see the 15 metre monster in Hyden. The 110 metre-long granite walls of Wave Rock are 2.7 billion years old.
