Description

Between June and September each year, female Southern Right whales return to the calm waters of Warrnambool’s Logans Beach to calve. These majestic creatures often glide within 100 metres of the shore, offering incredible viewing opportunities from a specially designed platform nestled in the sand dunes or directly from the beach below. The platform is open year-round, free to access, and equipped with a ramp, ensuring it’s accessible for everyone. Southern Right whales have been gracing Warrnambool’s coast for centuries. Once hunted to near extinction, their population has steadily rebounded since commercial whaling was banned in 1935. In the warmer months, these whales thrive in the sub-Antarctic waters. But each winter, the females make the long journey to the 'nursery' to birth.
