Description

Gundagai's North Common is a beautiful area which holds great significance to Gundagai itself. To either side of the area are the flowing water ways of the Murrumbidgee River and Morely's Creek pass through the town. Gundagais historic Bridge: Historic Railway Viaduct Bridge also spans across this vast flood plain. This area was also the location of the old township which was destroyed in the Great Flood of Gundagai in 1852. This flood took many lives but many lives were also saved by local Wiradjuri men Yarri and Jacky Jacky. Memorial Cairns are located at the Gundagai Common to showing the location and history of the town during this time. It is also the site of extreme Aboriginal significance with Bora Bora Rings and other cultural landmarks which played a major part in the local Wiradjuri culture. Explore the beauty of the landscape by taking a stroll along the river under the historic bridges, or discover more about the local Wiradjuri culture or simply just take in the wide open spaces.
