Byrock Cemetery

Discover Byrock Cemetery

This cemetery was restored by the residents of Byrock in 1996 to honour those who lost their lives in developing this part of western New South Wales between 1882 and 1933. The average age at death of those buried in this cemetery is 20 years. The lack of qualified medical practitioners, the distance and time to proper health care, the harshness of the climate, the poor living conditions and the ease of infection placed the pioneers of Byrock at considerable risk of an early and often avoidable death. Please collect the gate key from the Mulga Creek Hotel. For more information on the history of Byrock, you can visit the VisitBourke website.
