Considered the people's museum of Norfolk Island, situated on the corner of Queen Elizabeth Avenue and Middlegate Road. The Bounty Museum chronicles the history of the island and provides visitors with an intimate and informative glimpse into life on Norfolk Island during this time from the Polynesians, Colonial 1788 - 1814; Penal 1825 to 1855 and Pitcairn from 1856. Bounty Museum is a good place to visit early on your Norfolk Island holiday to gain valuable insights into local life. Though small in size, the museum is wide in scope, with lots of artefacts. Discover Bounty memorabilia, early photographs of Pitcairn settlers, old weapons and some frankly quite terrifying antique medical instruments. You'll also get a good sense of the day-to-day life on the island, not just the key historical events. The Bounty Museum on Norfolk Island has the replica of the HMAV Bounty Launch from Captain Bligh's Open Boat Voyage 1789 on display from the Maritime Museum UK. Also available are some historical records and research history books and resources in the Norfolk Island Heritage Centre.
