50 Years Progress of Griffith Sculpture

Sitting at the entry to Banna Ave, Griffith's main street, this granite sculpture by Luke Zwolsman commemorates 50 years of development of Griffith. The sculpture depicts the seed cone of the White Cypress Murray Pine, which is widely distributed throughout the region due to its white ant-resistant properties. The timber was used widely by early pioneers and continues to be used today. The seed cone of this tree is symbolic to the development of Griffith, a city established in a semi-arid environment. This modern sculpture has replaced the original monument, which was erected by the Griffith Rotary Club and unveiled by his excellency, The Governor of New South Wales, Sir Roden Cutler on 4th August 1966.
