Description

The Kimberley, one of the oldest and most unique parts of Australia, is also home to the Derby “Sculpture on the Marsh” Art Project. It is a public art project aimed at promoting the region's cultural identity and celebrating its unique character. The Marsh Art is best enjoyed at sunrise or sunset. The eight locally designed and manufactured sculptures can be admired as you wander leisurely along the fascinating Derby Marsh. The concept is the brainchild of Mark Norval, renowned local Artist “scoundrel” and driven supporter of Indigenous Art. May 2019 was the first installation of the sculpture “Contemplation”. This piece is a stunning example of the beauty and power of art. The sculpture is strategically placed to align with the sunset, creating a truly breathtaking sight. The glowing orange embers of the Kimberley sunset perfectly complement the piece, making it even more visually stunning.
