Description

Corella Dam was created to provide water for the nearby Mary Kathleen Mining Township. The area is a beautiful free camp that really allows you to get away from it all. Be sure to stock up in Cloncurry for supplies before you head out. You will need to be fully self sufficient. Maybe enjoy a relaxing meal, and a spot of shopping before leaving town. Heading towards Mount Isa, Corella Dam is just a short 45 minute drive from Cloncurry. Entry is via a 3km winding dirt road off the Barkley Highway; please be mindful that the area is surrounded by private property so open and close gates and only go where you know! And remember all roads are subject to flooding so be wary in the wet season and be sure to check access before hand at Cloncurry's Visitor Information Centre & UnEarthed Museum. Corella Dam is a fabulous spot for a picnic, some fishing, great four wheel driving or a few nights under the stars with free camping. Enjoy bright blue skies mirrored against an expansive lake with bountiful wildflowers and wild life.
