School of Wind and Water

The School of Wind and Water offer sail training based on the Richmond River in Ballina and also the Tweed River from Chinderah. They offer individual bespoke training in seamanship, navigation and race training, as well as group classes and sailing camps. Matt Foy is the director of the School of Wind and Water, and a passionate sailor who began his sailing journey at the age of 5 sailing dinghies on Sydney Harbour. Matt continued to sail and race a wide range of sailing dinghies throughout his childhood and teenage years. He began to work professionally on boat at 15, progressing to sail and work on private sailing yachts as a deckhand and skipper. Learning the ropes of maintaining and sailings private yachts lead to Matt sailing 10,000 nautical miles, around eastern Australia, the Caribbean, and across the Atlantic and around the Mediterranean. He has even taught sailing in Spanish in Spain and had ran a small sailing school on the Sunshine Coast.
