On your way to the coastal town of Sarina, via Eton, visit the General Gordon Hotel on Homebush Road. Established in 1886 and standing proudly among the cane fields, this hotel offers great meals and cold drinks. Continuing on to the township of Sarina, set in the serene foothills of Connors Range, the town offers a beautiful array of beaches with 90km of frontage to the Coral Sea. The Heritage and Mining Trail ends at Hay Point Lookout, north of the Sarina township. This is the best vantage point from which to view the operations of one of the largest coal export facilities in the world, at Hay Point and the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminals. Turn off just before the coal terminal to visit the viewing point that overlooks the bustling worksite below. It is especially spectacular at night as turns into a sea of lights.
