South of Clermont, seven kilometres along the Rubyvale Road is Copperfield, where a 10 metre wall of solid copper ore was discovered in 1862. It was the start of Queensland's first copper mine. All that remains of the once thriving community is a single smelter chimney stack and the general store, now the local museum which bares the same merchandise on its shelves as the day the store closed.
