On the outskirts of Gin Gin, within the free rest area, are four monuments representing the town's beginnings and also sharing in its dark past between settlers and aboriginals at Gin Gin Creek. Located nearby is also the gateway through to Mount Perry and the North Burnett. Journeying north on the Bruce Highway 20 kilometres from Gin Gin is Lake Monduran. When this body of water reaches 100 per cent, which it has in recent years, it holds a larger volume of water than the Sydney Harbour. A vital source 'liquid gold' to the farms of the region through many irrigation channels which can be seen throughout. But also is claimed to be the most southerly point in which you can land the elusive 'Barra'. But don't panic if you're unsuccessful as you can cry over those monsters in viewing tanks located behind the caravan park kiosk. Leaving the lake the journey north is a nice easy 80 kilometres to the next town, Miriam Vale, which will lead you to Agnes Water and the Town of 1770, an historic town to commemorate the landing of Captain James Cook in 1770.
