Moreton Island is the World's third largest sand island of which 98 per cent is a protected National Park. With no sealed roads, four wheel drive is the only mode of transport! Travelling by four wheel drive along Middle Road, you pass through thick eucalypt forest, featuring beautiful Xanthorrhoea (Grass Trees) up to 250 years old on your way to The Desert, the home of sand boarding. Sand boarding is awesome fun, high speed and speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour can be reached. From beginners, young children and families, to the most adventurous adrenalin junkie, The Desert is the perfect place to learn, or fine tune, your sand boarding skills. This open sand dune is shaped every day by winds that form the perfect wave. Make sure you bring your camera to get plenty of impressive shots! After lunch, enjoy a guided snorkel around the Tangalooma Shipwrecks. With 15 shipwrecks located just 50 metres off the beach, the Tangalooma Shipwrecks are home to one of Queensland’s most diverse marine eco systems. See a huge range of marine life including Butterbrim, blue and orange banded Parrotfish, Big Eye Trevally, Wobbegong, Blue-Tang Surgeonfish (Dory) and Clown Fish (Nemo)!
