Art installations by Fiona Foley highlight the Bluewater Trail beside Mackay's beautiful Pioneer River. Mangrove cap - this weathered corten steel structure is illuminated with solar-powered LED lights and highlights the importance of the mangrove within the ecosystem of the Pioneer River. It can be found in open grassland on the Bluewater Trail, near the mouth of the Pioneer River. Fishbones, Sugar Cubes and Shields can all be found in close proximity of each other on the Bluewater Quay, on the east side of the Forgan Bridge. The large cast iron and red mosaic fishbones are the focal point of many visitor photos. Further along on River Street toward the Bluewater Lagoon is YUWI. This two metre high text names local Aboriginal people and their lands. Crows, laser-cut stainless steel, can be found floating above Bluewater Lagoon. It also features a willie wagtail (bird), and three flying foxes (bats), in illustration of local fauna. An information map can be downloaded from the Artspace Mackay website.
