Kin Kin is best known for its art scene and great food, and the drive here will give you a feel for the wonderful scenery surrounding the area. If you happen to be driving through Kin Kin on the first Sunday of the month, make sure you stop off at the Creations Markets at Memorial Hall, Main Street. You can check out the various stalls from 10am to 2pm boasting an array of wares including jewellery and knick-knacks, plus fresh produce. From Kin Kin, drive to Deep Creek, about four kilometres away from Gympie, where you can experience the gold rush era. Alluvial gold was discovered near the Mary River in 1867, and today, visitors can roll up their sleeves and strike it rich by fossicking for gold at this tourist hot-spot on Counter Street. Fossicking permits are required, so make sure you visit the Cooloola Region Information Centre on the Bruce Highway (Pacific Coast Way) beforehand.
