The Margaret River Region’s Augusta is the nearest town to Cape Leeuwin, on the far south-west corner of Western Australia. Located where the Blackwood River spills into Flinders Bay, Augusta is just a short distance from the end of the Cape to Cape Track. From June to August, keen eyes look towards the waters of Augusta’s Flinders Bay, where the migrating humpback and southern right whales gather for a little rest and play before continuing on their journey north to the breeding grounds. While these majestic creatures can often be spotted close to the shore, a whale-watching tour will give you the most memorable encounter, getting you closer to the breaching, spy-hopping and tail-slapping action.
