Lake Walyungup is a beautiful 430-hectare shallow saline lake that was once connected to the ocean. The name Walyungup means a place where Nyungars talk. Lake Richmond is a freshwater lake that was used for hundreds of years as a fresh water source for local Nyungar tribes which like Lake Walyungup is located in the Rockingham region. The shallow waters around the edge of the lake are home to thrombocytes estimated to be about six million years old.
