Another early morning start will give you the best chance of meeting some of Koombana Bay’s friendliest residents at Bunbury’s Dolphin Discovery Centre. Here, you can opt to swim with the dolphins, join a dolphin eco cruise, or head for the interaction zone at the shoreline and wait for the dolphins to come to you. Spend the morning here, learning about dolphins and local marine life at the centre’s discovery pool, aquariums, 360-degree digital dolphinarium and 3D and 2D movies. Join a guided tour of the Centre, grab refreshments at the café, relax on the beach, picnic at the playground and lawn area, and shop for souvenirs. Just up the road from the Dolphin Discovery Centre, you can get a glimpse of what the coast looked like 20,000 years ago with a walk through Mangrove Cove, before making the 50-minute journey south to Busselton. Enjoy a lazy lunch on Busselton’s waterfront, overlooking Geographe Bay and the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere – Busselton Jetty. Walk or ride the jetty train to the end of this two-kilometre-long icon, and take a tour of the Underwater Observatory – a window to Australia’s greatest artificial reef, filled with forests of vivid sub-tropical corals, sponges, and an amazing diversity of marine life. For your return journey to Perth allow at least two and a half hours, heading north to Bunbury, the Forrest Highway and Kwinana Freeway.
