Kalgoorlie to Lake Ballard and Menzies Return

Make an early start, for the one-and-a-half-hour journey north along the Goldfields Highway to the historic gold mining town of Menzies. From here, it’s another 55 kilometres on an unsealed road to reach Lake Ballard, where 51 Antony Gormley sculptures stand against a vast, stark-white salt bed. Return to Menzies and rest for lunch at the hotel. Admire the town’s grand gold rush architecture that still stands as a reminder of the glory days, including Menzies Town Hall which is famous for standing 'clockless' for 100 years. Take the Goldfields Highway to return to Kalgoorlie. Or, if you are travelling in a Four Wheel Drive, follow the Golden Quest Discovery Trail to Kalgoorlie, stopping along the way to take in the gold rush ghost towns of Broad Arrow, Ora Banda, Siberia and Goongarri.
