Fly into Learmonth Airport from Perth, pick up a hire car and head up the cape to Exmouth, where you can indulge your ocean passions on the Ningaloo Reef – home to some 500 species of fish and 300 varieties of coral. Make your first port of call at Exmouth Visitor Centre to pick up maps and check out the full array of guided tours available. Time your arrival between March and July and you can experience the thrill of swimming with the largest fish in the ocean on a whale shark swim tour. There are plenty of snorkelling tours operating year-round, offering close encounters with the diverse marine life of the outer reef. Divers shouldn’t miss the chance to drop off Navy Pier – one of Australia’s top dive sites – and anglers will find all the big-game thrills with world-class fishing.
