In just over half an hour, the Pemberton-Northcliffe Road will bring you to the curious hollow butt and twin karri trees of Northcliffe Forest Park. Continuing south on Windy Harbour Road, you’ll enter the extraordinary wilderness of D’Entrecasteaux National Park – renowned for its extraordinary botanical and geological features, long sandy beaches and four wheel drive adventures. Make your first stop at the granite outcrop of Mount Chudalup (16 kilometres south of Northcliffe) – it’s a haven for the rare Queen of Sheba orchid. Follow the 1.5 kilometre summit walk trail for a stunning panorama of the surrounding heathlands, forests and coast beyond. Take your picnic lunch up to Tookalup Lookout for sensational views over the limestone cliffs and Southern Ocean. Wisteria, coral vine, Clematis, shark tooth Acacia, buttercup and Melaleuca can be seen around the lookout and, between September and November, you may also spot southern right whales in the waters below. For a scenic drive and an afternoon walk along the clifftops, follow the six-kilometre coastal road to Point D'Entrecasteaux, where an access-friendly walk offers some breathtaking views. Camp overnight in Windy Harbour or return to Northcliffe.
