From Albany, drive east towards Esperance. Stop at Bremer Bay and explore the Fitzgerald River National Park, with its pristine beaches and unique flora and fauna. Here, more than 1,800 beautiful and bizarre flowering plants are native, which corresponds to about 20 percent of all Western Australian plant species. The mountains, rocky cliffs, inlets and white sand beaches can be explored on foot on sign-posted hiking trails. Between September and November, wildflowers are in full bloom. If you would like to spend an extra night here, you can stay at St Mary Inlet right. Located on the beach, the campsite is a great spot to watch whales pass by in season (July to November). Bremer Bay is home to many quiet and beautiful beaches, some with privately run campsites. At Four Mile Campground near the coastal town of Hopetoun, you can camp near the beach in the middle of nature. Picnic areas and gas barbecues are available here. An alternative route to Esperance can take in Porongurup National Park, located 40 kilometres north of Albany. For those with a taste for adventure, you can’t go past hiking the impressive Granite Skywalk at Castle Rock. Only 45 kilometres further is Stirling Range National Park, home to popular hiking attraction, Bluff Knoll – the highest mountain in Western Australia at 1095 metres.
