Depart Esperance on the 38-kilometre Great Ocean Drive. The road leads past the dreamy Twilight Beach, and Pink Lake, whose waters glow pink in certain weather conditions. Continue north on the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway. In Norseman, about 200 kilometres from Kalgoorlie, you will breathe fresh outback air for the first time. Here, you will find tin camel sculptures and magnificent views from the small town’s viewpoints. Kalgoorlie is the centre of outback West Australia. Its well-preserved and restored Victorian-style houses make the city look like a living museum. The former goldmine settlement is home to Australia's largest gold mine, the Super Pit, which is eight square kilometres long. From the Super Pit Lookout you can admire the huge mine up close, alternatively, you can participate in a guided tour of the mine area.
