The first section of the trip north takes you on the Indian Ocean Drive through some coastal towns, such as Cervantes. The first highlight of the tour awaits you in Cervantes. At Nambung National Park, thousands of limestone spires of up to four metres in diameter rise from the yellow quartz sand, otherwise known as the Pinnacles Desert. At sunrise and sunset, the colours of the Pinnacles are particularly intense. Not far from this moonlike landscape, the blue waters of the Indian Ocean glitter. After exploring the Pinnacles, head to the Desert Discovery Centre to learn more about this mystical phenomenon. The driveway to the national park is paved and the carpark is within walking distance of the limestone pillars. The beaches Hangover Bay and Thirsty Point in Cervantes are highly recommended for a refreshing swim.
