When you are taken on a tour of Douglas Vale's historic homestead and vineyard, you are transported to a carefully restored piece of Hastings Valley history. From the authentic family items donated by members of the Dick and Francis families (pioneers of the Hastings area) inside the historic homestead, to the only community-owned and operated working vineyard in Australia, you will marvel at the depth of passion the Douglas Vale volunteers have gone to ensure every part of the property is a delight. The heritage-listed bamboo clump welcomes visitors to enjoy a free wine tasting in picturesque surroundings, which include cottage and vegetable gardens, an orchard and pineapple patch that once grew 22,000 pineapples, and, of course, the vineyard, home to the famous Isabella grape, which once earnt international fame in the late 1800s. There are also other restored buildings, an oyster boat and a Wine House built to preserve the footings and convict-hewn bricks of the original wine cellars which serves as a function and events venue.
