Outback Date Farms is an Australian, family-run agritourism enterprise based in Charleville, outback Queensland. Inspirational farmer Mark Hampel realised a long-term dream when he established the plantation in 2014. At present, there are 450 palms, growing delicious eating dates. An innovative irrigation system utilises Charleville’s waste water in an environmentally responsible manner. Check out the Outback Oasis wetlands that have been created recently. Farm tours are available from April to October. Participants learn about the history of dates, how they are grown and harvested, and the incredible health benefits of this superfood. Fresh dates are available onsite for sampling and purchase. The farmer delivers information in an entertaining manner, with a sprinkling of anecdotes and jokes. His wife’s home-cooked date loaf morning tea has proven to be very popular!
