The beautiful and historic region of Clare Valley is almost a 2-hour drive north of Adelaide. It boasts a terrain of rolling countryside situated in the northern Mt Lofty Ranges. The region was settled in the late 1830’s with vineyards and wine production starting in the early 1840’s. With warm to hot summers and cooling afternoon breezes, this area is renowned for producing world-class Rieslings. Other well-known varieties grown in the area are Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Semillon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Tempranillo Malbec, Cabernet and Shiraz. With some of South Australia’s most outstanding restaurants dotted through this region, it would be a shame not to book in and stop for lunch. Terrior Auburn, Skillogalee, Slate Restaurant, Mr Mick and Paulett’s are all exceptional options but don’t forget the many wonderful, genuine and welcoming country pubs, smaller cafes and bakeries.
