A city built entirely around its river
This is a capital that never strays far from the water: the Brisbane River threads every precinct together, and a CityCat ticket is the cheapest tour in town. Glide past Story Bridge and under the cliffs of Howard Smith Wharves, then step into GOMA and QAG, two of the country's best public galleries, both free to wander. Climb Mount Coot-tha for a lookout over the whole city and the botanic gardens at its feet. However you spend the day, the river's usually the fastest way back.
