Pick up a picnic lunch in Dongara and travel inland to Depot Hill Reserve, just to the north-west of Mingenew. Here, the dense scrubland is filled with pretty pink and white thryptomenes and scholtzias. A short drive north from Mingenew, on the unsealed Coalseam Road, brings you to Coalseam Conservation Park where the acacia scrubland comes alive with everlastings after good winter rains. Walk the Irwin River Nature Trail looking for marine fossils along the river banks, and enjoy a picnic lunch among the everlastings. Complete the journey north to Mullewa for your overnight stay in town, or get a taste of real country living at a nearby station stay.
