Albany is the oldest settlement in Western Australia, founded by Europeans in 1826. When visiting the region, a visit to Torndirrup National Park is a must. Here, you will find attractions such as the Blowholes, the Gap and Natural Bridge, offering spectacular views over the Southern Ocean. You might even spot a whale between June and October. Alternatively, you can join a whale watching tour, followed by a visit to the Discovery Bay Museum where you will learn the history of Albany’s old whaling station. The region is surrounded by beautiful stretches of beaches, including Little Beach and Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve – great spots for a leisurely picnic. On the way to Hyden, you can drive through Porongurup National Park, located 40 kilometres north of Albany. For those with a taste for adventure, you can’t go past hiking the impressive Granite Skywalk at Castle Rock. Only 45 kilometres further is Stirling Range National Park, home to popular hiking attraction, Bluff Knoll – the highest mountain in Western Australia at 1095 metres. Afterwards, make a detour to Kukerin, home to the famous Cambinata Yabbies farm. You can visit the farm and processing centre and sample freshly cooked Yabbie crabs and gourmet abalone (marine snail). From Kulin, 90 kilometres further north, drive eastwards to the Tin Horse Highway.
