Where vineyard hills crest suddenly into ocean views
The road through this peninsula does something few others manage, climbing through vineyard-covered hills before cresting into open ocean, deep blue meeting bright green with barely a warning. Victor Harbor anchors the coast with Granite Island just offshore, a walkable causeway leading to genuine whale watching in season. The heritage Cockle Train runs right along the sand between here and Goolwa, one of the few steam railways in the country with an ocean view the whole way. This is a coast that never quite settles on one kind of beautiful.
