South West

This is Queensland's most remote quarter, Channel Country stretching out from Charleville's dark skies to the dinosaur country around Eromanga. Cunnamulla and Currawinya hold their own stories of hot springs and rare wildlife, and further out, Quilpie's opal fields reward anyone willing to fossick for their own stone. Every small town out here carries something worth the detour, if you're prepared for the drive between them. Out through it all, the red dirt roads run further than the map really shows. Remote doesn't begin to cover it.
