Tropical North Region

This is the only place on Earth where two World Heritage areas sit side by side, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest close enough to experience both in the same day. Cairns anchors the coast with its own tropical energy, while Port Douglas and Palm Cove keep things quieter further north. Inland, the Tablelands and Kuranda hold waterfalls and crater lakes, and further out, the Gulf Savannah trades green for red dirt and ancient lava tubes. North again, Cooktown and Cape York mark the true edge of the continent, explorer history and Aboriginal culture layered into the same rugged country.
