The Downs, the valleys, and the towns between them
This is the softer side of inland Queensland, cotton fields and cool mountain air rather than red dirt and Channel Country. Toowoomba anchors it with its gardens and hilltop views, while Southern Downs and South Burnett keep their own quiet wine country further out. Somerset and Lockyer Valley hold the lakes and farmland in between, and Goondiwindi marks the border where Queensland gives way to New South Wales. Cherbourg carries its own deep, significant story, worth learning properly rather than passing through. Out here, the towns are closer together and the pace is a little gentler.
